Click45 is a chance for me to experiment with my photography, play with different ideas, locations, lighting, wardrobes, collaborators, and subjects to better learn how to tell the stories I wish to tell. This shoot was a co-production with fellow actor and photographer Victor Webster. We each took turns prepping setups, shooting and assisting each other.

How Maddison and I Clicked

I had met Maddison in passing a few times at various events, but I didn’t have the chance to truly connect with her until this very shoot. It was Victor who suggested we invite Maddison to collaborate with us as a model—and what a pleasure that turned out to be.

Our setups were designed to evoke classic magazine fashion editorials, and boy, did she deliver. It makes a real difference to the final product when you have the privilege of working with a professional model who brings her A-game. The proof is in the pudding.

Thanks, Maddison—you helped make this shoot a true success.

Shoot Plan

Two photographers. One model. No excuses.

Each photographer gets 15 minutes to shoot each setup while the other assists. We shoot tethered to our computers using a Tether Tools cable into Capture One, giving the assisting photographer the chance to review the other’s work in real time.

Once both photographers have had their turn, they each get five additional minutes to try something a little different—hopefully inspired by their fellow photog’s work. That’s the challenge.

As mentioned, Victor and I wanted to explore different takes on classic fashion editorials. We divided the shoot into three sections, each emulating the style of a different magazine: Cosmopolitan, Maxim, and Vanity Fair.

This required strobes, modifiers (with and without diffusion), flags and bounce, bare bulbs with cones, and at times, a touch of natural light slipped in as fill. That’s the experiment.
